Math
We will start our money unit this week. Students must be able to count money up to $5.00, compare two different amounts of money, and make correct change.
As a 3rd grade team, we will start math SOL Remediation once a week until the math SOL. Students will travel through all 4 classes and we will review math topics with the students each Friday.
Language Arts
We are practicing reading as a class and are reading The One and Only Ivan. As we read, we are coming up with information about the characters, the setting, questions about the reading, and making predictions.
We will also be working on a biography project over the next few weeks. The purpose of the projects is to become experts on specific people the children need to know for the SOLs. Since 3rd graders are tested on famous Americans that they've learned about over the last 3 years, we will review all of them. This project will incorporate research from different sources, reading, writing, and presentation. The final grade will include a paper that the student writes, a video that the student creates, and a collection of all of the information on Board Builder on Discovery Education.
SOL Review
Please expect SOL Review information to come home over the next few weeks. I will update the information here when I have more to share. Students will receive Race Quiz cards this week and will be tested on them once a week. They are related to science and social studies.
Have a great week!
